Text by Annie Crabtree co-founder of Picture Window

"Picture Window is an on-going public art project co-produced by myself and Eileen Daily. The objective is to enliven unsuspecting audiences in unsuspecting areas of the city with an innovative format for publicly engaged work. We were invited to produce a programme for Refugee Week Scotland, part of which was Samantha Jack's participatory installation in Possilpark, North Glasgow.

What was interesting from the perspective of a producer, and an artist, to work with Sam's and the workshop format was the way it was accessible and open to anyone who wished to take part, but the definitions of what it might be (workshop, craft day, fine art installation) was variable and dependant on the viewer and audience. Although the workshop was only live for three days, the range of conversation that occurred between myself and Sam as artists, and between Sam, myself, and other local people demonstrated the potential for how group contribution to an artwork, and many cups of tea, create a environment for discussion and exploration.

I still enjoy how the work can be redefined depending on the situation, context, and audiences. Its flexibility really suited Picture Window's ethos of working with a wide range of people, creative practitioners and artists, producing work directed towards unmediated urban audiences."
